Darktrace PLC (LSE:DARK) said fraudsters and hackers have adapted ChatGPT and other AI-enabling tools to improve the sophistication of their attempts to dupe people.
The cybersecurity group said that since the launch of ChatGPT three months ago the volume of emails that encourage recipients to click on links it is seeing has declined.
Text-based frauds have become increased however, it said, and are now coming with more complex sentences and better grammar and punctuation, reinforcing the idea they might have come from a bona fide source.
Darktrace said it is incorporating ways to counter AI-generated threats within its product suites for release later this year and is trialling some already with early adopter customers.
The FTSE 250-listed firm was subject to a short-selling attack by US hedge fund QCM in January and today reiterated its earnings and revenue guidance for the year to end June 2023, though it reduced its cash forecast due to the vesting of incentive shares for its two executive directors.
Interim results were also in line with forecasts, with revenues of US$259mln, up 36%, and underlying profits (adjusted EBITDA) of US$59.7mln, up 33%.
