Lego sales jumped by 17% in 2022 as fans and children snapped up new ranges such as LEGO City and LEGO Icons alongside stalwarts such as the Harry Potter and Star Wars franchises.
Niels Christiansen, the Danish toy brick maker’s chief executive, added that in its 90th anniversary year, the results had shown “that the LEGO System in Play is more relevant and appealing than ever”.
Revenues rose to Kr64.6bn (£7.8bn) with net profit 4% higher at Kr13.8bn.
Christiansen added the results were achieved despite “extraordinary inflationary pressures on materials, freight and energy costs”.
Some 48% of sales came from new products while 155 new stores opened during the year, taking the total globally to 904.
In the current year, Christiansen predicted single-digit revenue growth, which he said would be ahead of the global toy market, while adding it would accelerate its strategic initiatives.
LEGO is still owned by the founding Kristiansen family.
