Weight Watchers International (NASDAQ:WW) is expanding into the fat-loss injection market.
It is doing so by acquiring digital health firm Sequence, a subscription service that provides virtual appointments with doctors who can prescribe weight-loss drugs such as Ozempic and Wegovy for $99 a month.
The US$132mln cash and stock acquisition allows WeightWatchers customers to access medical interventions along with food tracking and lifestyle alterations.
Sequence currently has 24,000 members and offers weight-loss medication, an app to measure weight loss and online meetings with dietitians and fitness coaches.
WeightWatchers intends to promote Sequence's services to its members and offer programs focused on retaining and regaining muscle, in addition to weight-loss drugs. The deal is expected to be finalized between April and June 2022.
