Kavango explores banded iron formation-hosted lode gold model for Ditau

Kavango Resources PLC (LSE:KAV, OTC:KVGOF) has conducted a review of the mineral exploration potential of its Ditau project in Botswana.

The review was carried out for Kavango by Dr Hamid Mumin, professor and former chair of the Department of Geology at Brandon University, Manitoba, Canada.

He identified banded iron formation hosted lode gold as a possible model for Ditau.

Kavango previously recognised a 100-metre-thick zone of interest from 293 metres to 393 metres in diamond drillhole DITDD004 at Ditau. This included anomalous gold values.

Dr Mumin assessed drill logs, core photography, and assays from DITDD004.

The banded iron formation intersected by DITDD004 is very thick, at over 100 metres, and open at depth. The intersecting structure, which is the source of fracturing, brecciation, sulphidisation, gold, silver, copper, and arsenic, appears also to be large.

These factors combined could, in Dr Mumin's opinion, have led to a significant gold mineralising event.

Such systems can be capable of hosting a multimillion-ounce gold deposit, Kavango noted in a statement.
