Are lithium stocks still a buy after a wild week in the markets?

Lithium stocks went on a wild ride this week. Shares of the larger lithium miners Albemarle, SQM, Piedmont Lithium Inc (ASX:PLL, NASDAQ:PLL, XETRA:) and Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC, NYSE:LAC) are down between 7% and 14% with much of that drop coming in the past few trading days.

But smaller lithium mining firms like LithiumBank Resources Corp (TSX-V:LBNK) and Century Lithium Corp. (TSX-V:LCE, OTCQX:CYDVF) had a much better week, outperforming their larger peers.

“If demand grows as a result of the large battery manufacturer CATL discounting prices, and this discounting causes others to follow, the result could be a larger lithium deficit that could raise the price of the mineral per USD/metric-ton,” Channelchek’s Paul Hoffman wrote earlier this week. “Time will tell.”
