TSX Venture Exchange showcases its top 50 performers of 2022 in end-of-year ranking

The TSX Venture Exchange has revealed a list of its top 50 performers in 2022, ranking the 10 best performers in five sector categories: clean technology and life sciences; diversified industries; mining; energy; and technology.

The companies themselves were ranked using a combination of their one-year share price change, one-year trading value and one-year market cap, all as of December 31.

The full list can be viewed here, and the top performer in each category is as follows:

Clean technology and life science — First Hydrogen Corp, a British Columbia-based manufacturer of zero-emission, long-range hydrogen-powered utility vehicles that saw its shares surge 144%.

Diversified industries — Westaim Corporation, an investment company engaged in providing long-term capital to businesses operating primarily within the global financial services industry. Its stock added 5%.

Mining — Sigma Lithium Corporation, a Canadian company with a Brazillian management team dedicated to powering the next generation of electric vehicle batteries with environmentally sustainable and high-purity lithium. Its shares rocketed 193% in 2022.

Energy — Southern Energy Corp (TSX-V:SOU, AIM:SOUC, OTC:MAXMD), an oil and gas exploration and production company consolidating and developing assets in the southeastern US. Its stock gained 173%

Technology — Kraken Robotics Inc (TSX-V:PNG), a marine technology company providing advanced sonar and laser systems and subsea power solutions for unmanned underwater vehicles with military and commercial applications. Its shares jumped 52%.

To be eligible for the list, companies needed to have a market cap of more than $5 million, a closing price of at least $0.25, and be listed for at least one year as of December 31, 2022. Companies also needed to have had a closing share price of at least $0.10 on December 31, 2021.

There were 1,724 companies listed on the TSX Venture Exchange as of December 31, 2022, according to the exchange's website.
