Ceres Power Holdings PLC (AIM:CWR, OTC:CPWHF) has welcomed the launch of a stationary solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) system using the company's technology by its partner Weichai
The SOFC system has also been granted EU CE certification after completing a 30,000-hour test at Weichai’s fuel cell industrial park.
Weichai described the SOFC system as 'world-leading' during its unveiling in China, which was attended by Tan Xuguang, the chairman of its power arm, and Jonathan Heywood, a director of Ceres China, as part of the 11th International Conference of ICE Reliability.
The Chinese transport and power group noted that the system can start and stop up to four times faster than other technologies with power generation efficiency of more than 60% and cogeneration efficiency of more than 85%.
Installed in modular units, it can be scaled to megawatts of power output, the company said, making 'SOFC another major strategic pillar of Weichai's diversified development of energy'.
Weichai estimates that when its products reach 1GW of distributed power deployed, it has the potential to reduce carbon emissions by around two million tonnes per year, compared with electricity drawn from the grid.
