Aldi is planning on opening 40 new stores this year as part of its expansion plan, which includes hiring 6,000 new employees.
New stores will be coming to Norwich and Newcastle, while doors at locations in Huddersfield and Shrewsbury will open next month.
The new locations are part of its plans to have 1,200 stores in Britain by the end of 2025.
Currently, the German discounter, which recently displaced Morrisons as one of the UK’s big four grocers, has 990 stores and employs around 40,000 people in the UK.
Aldi also said in a statement it is currently recruiting for 450 jobs across its 11 regional distribution centres.
“Demand for Aldi has never been higher as more and more people realise they can make significant savings on every shop without compromising on quality,” said Giles Hurley, chief executive of Aldi.
The retailer has benefitted from the soaring costs of groceries in recent months as consumers trade down to budget alternatives.
Aldi’s market share has grown by almost 27% in the last year, in comparison to the supermarket sector which has averaged 6% growth over the same period.
