Wincanton PLC (LSE:WIN) has won an expanded new four-year contract with Wickes Group PLC (LSE:WIX), becoming the sole supply chain partner for the DIY and building products retailer’s UK kitchen and bathroom business.
The supply chain specialist, which has worked with Wickes since 2017, said its mandate has gradually expanded adding that before the new contract it was managing 50% of the kitchen and bathroom transport operations.
This is now increased to 100%, with 342 Wickes staff transferring across to Wincanton, which also takes responsibility for the management of Wickes’ 400,000 sq ft kitchen and bathroom distribution centres in Northampton.
James Wroath, chief executive of the FTSE-listed logistics group, said the contract extension came about after Wickes was presented with “a compelling proposition centred on continuous improvement to deliver significant savings and to support its business growth over the next four years and beyond.”
He said the work will include new initiatives to improve customer experience, innovation to drive efficiency across the supply chain and improvements to increase the sustainability of the shared operations.
Wickes staff will also benefit from Wincanton’s HR platform, which manages peak trading periods by providing employees with “working patterns that suit them, while simultaneously alleviating pressure for customers”.
