FTSE 100 surges past 8,000 point mark - Market Report

The FTSE 100 surged further beyond the 8,000 point mark in early trading.

British Gas owner Centrica trebled its profits on the year to report an all-time record of £3.3bn, supported by soaring gas prices last year.

Standard Chartered’s pre-tax profits have also risen, increasing by 28% on the year to $4.29bn, with the company suggesting that the reopening of China should fuel further growth.

Not such cheerful news over at embattled airline Flybe however, with administrators saying that no suitors have been found to buy the company after its second bankruptcy in just three years.

And in small caps, shares in hemp-derived consumer goods firm Chill Brands rose on the news it had added its first third-party product listings to its website chill.com
