Elon Musk donated around US$1.95bn worth of Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) stock to charity in the second half of last year, according to a US regulatory filing.
He gave 11.6mln shares as a “bona fide gift” between August and December last year, the form said, leaving his stake in the electric vehicle giant at 13%.
He previously donated around US$5.74bn worth of the stock in 2021, having signed the Giving Pledge in 2012, committing to gifting half of his lifetime wealth.
Although neither filing says where the shares were deposited, Musk has previously made donations to the Memphis-based St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and also set up his own foundation in 2001 to offer grants for the development of artificial intelligence.
Musk offloaded some US$40bn worth of Tesla shares in 2022, as he searched for ways to fund his US$44bn October Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) takeover, suggesting to the World Government Summit on Wednesday he simply aimed to “stabilise" the firm and make it “financially healthy,” following a controversial peroid in charge.
