Around 350 Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) workers at the Coventry distribution centre are set to strike amid pay disputes, the GMB union has announced.
Workers will walk out on February 28, March 2 and between March 13 and 17.
The workers are campaigning for a £15 hourly wage after anger at being offered a 50p increase to their £10.50 wage last summer.
Amanda Gearing, GMB senior organiser, said: “It’s sickening that Amazon workers in Coventry will earn just 8p above the national minimum wage in April 2023."
She added: “Bosses can stop this industrial action by doing the right thing and negotiating a proper pay rise with workers.”
The workers campaigning became the first-ever UK Amazon employees to strike when they took to the picket line last month.
An Amazon spokesperson stated: “A tiny proportion of our workforce is involved.
“According to the verified figures, only a fraction of 1% of our UK employees voted in the ballot – and that includes those who voted against industrial action.”
More unions striking
Nurses at the Royal College of Nursing – including workers from A&E and intensive care wards – are considering a 48-hour strike in the coming weeks.
Rail workers part of the RMT union will vote in the coming days to decide whether to stage a new round of strikes later in the year after turning down their latest offer.
Ambulance workers represented by Unite, GMB and Unison will strike until 20 March.
