Twitter pauses users for reaching 'daily post limit' as glitches mount up

Twitter users faced issues posting on Wednesday, receiving messages instead that they had supposed a 4,200 daily post limit

Many Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) users were silenced on Wednesday after a glitch led to messages being sent out telling people they were over a daily post limit.

Some users saw posts blocked between 10pm and 11pm, receiving messages instead suggesting they had sent too many tweets for the day, despite many reporting they had posted just once or twice.

Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:FB)’s Instagram and Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG)’s YouTube also faced a spike in issues around the same time, according to website Downdetector.

Owner Elon Musk admitted Twitter was facing “multiple internal & external issues simultaneously,” but that problems “should be” fixed on Thursday, while Twitter’s support page apologised for “the trouble”.

Musk also reportedly told staff to stop development of new features, including the rollout of new products to Twitter Blue subscribers and ending free access to some services, as the social media worked to fix problems, the Information claimed.

Issues arose after Musk cut Twitter’s workforce from around 8,000 to 2,300 people after buying the company for US$44bn in October.

Other developments Twitter staff are working on include adding a payment tool to the site, alongside efforts to meet European content rules by September in order to avoid fines worth 6% of annual revenue.
