Boeing to axe up to 2,000 office jobs

Boeing said it is planning to cut around 2,000 office jobs this year, with a particular focus on finance and human resources.

The plane maker said the move allows it to put more capital into “products, services and technology development,” according to the BBC.

Some of the jobs will be outsourced to Tata Consulting Services, a unit of India’s largest conglomerate.

Despite this, Boeing expects to continue its recruitment drive with a “focus on engineering and manufacturing.”

Boeing said last month it aims to recruit 10,000 employees this year to build on the 15,000 people it hired in 2022.

The US company, which supplies planes to British Airways, Emirates and Virgin Atlantic, waved goodbye to its 747 jumbo jets last December, over 50 years after it was first introduced.

Boeing announced two years ago that it planned to introduce an entirely bio-fuelled aircraft by 2030 as the industry tries to move away from fossil fuels.
