Kingfisher Mining Ltd (ASX:KFM) has unearthed high-grade, continuous rare earths during drilling at MW2 prospect within the Mick Well Project in WA’s Gascoyne Mineral Field.
All assays are in for the explorer’s 37-hole drill program, which encountered rare earth element (REE) mineralisation intersected in 33 holes, highlighting MW2’s scale potential.
In addition, MW2 is home to high-grade monazite mineralisation, which occurs from surface and remains open along strike and at depth.
Some of the best results include:
- 5 metres at 2.63% total rare earth oxides (TREO) and 0.54% neodymium and praseodymium from 124 metres, including 3 metres at 4.11% TREO and 0.85% neodymium and praseodymium from 124 metres and 1-metre at 6.7% TREO and 1.39% neodymium and praseodymium from 125 metres;
- 4 metres at 3.24% TREO and 0.54% neodymium and praseodymium from 46 metres, including 1-metre at 5.25% TREO and 0.84% neodymium and praseodymium from 47 metres;
- 5 metres at 1.54% TREO and 0.30% neodymium and praseodymium from 75 metres, including 1-metre at 4.42% TREO and 0.84% neodymium and praseodymium from 77 metres; and
- 4 metres at 1.90% TREO and 0.34% neodymium and praseodymium from 65 metres, including 3 metres at 2.42% TREO and 0.43% neodymium and praseodymium from 65 metres.
More broadly, the strong hits confirm the company’s 54-kilometre Chalba corridor as the next significant REE target in the emerging Gascoyne Mineral Field.
In fact, the intersections from MW2 are comparable to results from the Bald Hill deposit, part of Hastings Technology Metal’s world-class Yangibana Project.
Analysing potential
With another drill program under its belt, Kingfisher has deepened its understanding of Mick Well’s geology — there are several potential extensions both at MW2 and the area immediately surrounding the discovery to investigate.
It’s important to note that MW2 is just one of several targets along the Chalba and Lockier target corridors meaning there’s more to explore in this highly mineralised region.
A drill rig has been booked for follow-up work in April this year.

- 3 metres at 2.52% TREO and 0.41% neodymium and praseodymium from 46 metres, including 1-metre at 5.38% TREO and 0.88% neodymium and praseodymium from 46 metres;
- 6 metres at 0.98% TREO and 0.17% neodymium and praseodymium from 89 metres, including 1-metre at 2.10% TREO and 0.36% neodymium and praseodymium from 89 metres;
- 9 metres at 0.66% TREO and 0.11% neodymium and praseodymium from 38 metres, including 1-metre at 2.22% TREO and 0.34% neodymium and praseodymium from 44 metres; and
- 4 metres at 1.07% TREO and 0.17% neodymium and praseodymium from 93 metres, including 1-metre at 2.03% TREO and 0.33% neodymium and praseodymium from 94 metres.
