Oriole Resources PLC (AIM:ORR) said lithium pegmatites have been identified at its Cameroon central licence package (CLP).
According to a statement, the AIM-quoted exploration company has been undertaking reconnaissance exploration at two of its licences, Ndom and Gamboukou, to assess the potential for lithium-bearing pegmatites.
The group has now been able to confirm multiple pegmatite veins within the granitoid and older basement rocks.
"Whilst lithium was not an original target for Oriole, the anomalies highlighted by the earlier programmes seem to be associated with the correct granitic host units and this has created a great opportunity for additional value add in this extensive package of ground,” said chief executive Tim Livesey.
A total of 64 rock-chip samples were taken at Ndom, 55 of which are targeting pegmatite veins up to 1.5 metres wide.
Mapping and sampling programmes continue at Gamboukou, which Oriole secured in November.
Oriole owns 90% of the CLP, which is a district-size project comprising nine licences covering 4,091 square kilometres.
