DJs and dance instructors are some of the fastest-growing small businesses in the UK, new research suggests.
In 2022 the number of DJs and dance instructors taking out small business insurance grew by 18% and 12% respectively, a study by insurer Simply Business noted.
However, the biggest increase came from project managers - rising by 71% in the last year.
The report suggested the changes resulted from the pandemic "changing the way people view work", setting up on their own to take advantage of flexible working hours.
Other growing enterprises include gift shops, property management agents, security guards and electrical engineers.
The amount of café owners rose by 31% in 2022 despite the hospitality industry facing significant headwinds.
“Small businesses and the self-employed are vital to the UK economy, accounting for 99% of all British businesses,” said Alan Thomas, UK chief executive officer at Simply Business.
“Small business owners have shown resilience, innovation and creativity at every stage since the start of the pandemic- it’s incredibly encouraging to see this uplift in UK entrepreneurs,” he added.
But 26% of small business owners believe they won’t be able to pay bills in 2023, with 15% believing their business will not survive 2023, a recent survey by the insurance provider found.
Thomas concluded by stating: “Our economy and communities need small businesses to bounce back, so it’s heartening to see a new wave of entrepreneurs seizing the opportunity.”
