Superdry chief joins M&S and Next bosses in Brexit revision call

Superdry boss Julian Dunkerton wants an EU trade deal

Superdry chief executive Julian Dunkerton has become the latest company head to warn of the possible risks from Brexit to British companies.

Dunkerton suggested a new deal with the European Union would be needed to prevent further inflation rate hikes in the UK, with the figure currently sitting at 10.5%.

“A European Union free trade deal is essential and must be actioned as soon as possible if we are to stop inflation in its tracks,” he said.

He joins other executives in calling on the government to revise deals and do more in the wake of the British split from the European Union.

Marks and Spencer Group PLC (LSE:MKS)’s chairman lashed out at the government’s economic policy last week, describing post-Brexit trade plans as “baffling” and “overbearing”.

Archie Norman, who is also a former conservative MP, argued plans to solve issues with the Northern Irish Protocol with a new labelling regime would lead to higher prices, give European companies an advantage and ultimately see consumers losing out.

James Dyson meanwhile, called the government “short-sighted” and accused it of having a “stupid” approach to the economy, arguing business rate tax hikes due in April would see companies leave the UK for good.

November saw Next PLC (LSE:NXT) boss Simon Wolfson call on the government to allow more foreign workers into the country to help boost productivity and fill some 1.16mln job vacancies.
