FTSE 100 trending higher, Diageo sales up - Market Report

FTSE 100 trending higher, Diageo sales up - Market Report

The FTSE 100 is trending higher this morning after a rebound in the US markets and a slew of corporate updates here in the UK.

Among those was premium drinks giant Diageo, which is reporting strong growth in sales and profits owing to currency movements, higher prices, and consumers turning to premium brands.

But elsewhere in premium drinks, mixer-maker Fever-Tree is warning that elevated energy costs across Europe will have a “material impact” on the cost of glass for its bottles this year.

Low-cost carrier Wizz Air also has an update out today, that says its passenger numbers soared by nearly 60% on the year during the final three months of 2022. The company still expects to post an overall net loss in the fiscal year 2023 but remains “remain confident” that it will return to profit in 2024.

In the small caps, Mkango Resources said it was approved by the Malawi Environmental Protection Agency for its Environmental Social Health Impact Assessment of the Songwe Hill rare earth project.

Today’s report was written by Jai Singh and presented by me, Thomas Warner.
