Lloyds and Halifax confirm more bank closures for this Spring

Another 40 bank branches will be leaving the high street this year as Lloyds and Halifax announced more closures.

Some 39 of the closures will occur in England, the banks said, and between April and June this year.

Lloyds Banking Group, which owns both high street banks, said the closures come as customer numbers have dwindled by 60% over the last five years.

Halifax will be closing 18 branches, including in Essex, Bletchley, and Golders Green in north London.

Closures at Lloyds branches include Ipswich, Twickenham in southwest London and Harrow in northwest London.

Lloyds said the closures will not lead to any job losses.

Barclays also recently announced it would be closing 15 branches this year as banks scale back their physical locations, while TSB confirmed it will be closing nine sites.

With today’s announcement, the total number of confirmed bank closures this year is 64.

In-person visits had been falling prior to the pandemic, although the lockdowns exacerbated the situation and forced people to learn how to bank from home.
