Britain’s second-largest health and beauty retailer Superdrug had one of its best-ever December trading sessions in 2022 following a strong rebound in high-street footfall.
Like-for-like sales increased by 16%, led by its fragrance, cosmetics and beauty services lines, Superdrug said, with average weekly transactions in December 19% above 2021 levels, while sales of its Own Brand vegan product lines were up 20% year-on-year.
In a statement, Superdrug chief executive Peter Macnab commented: ‘We are delighted to say that we had a tremendous Christmas at Superdrug. Our commitment to accessibility means that customers continue to come to us for the very best in high-street value, at a time when affordability really matters."
The group’s online sales also grew, thanks in part to the November launch of its new marketplace for third-party items, which effectively doubled the number of products available on Superdrug.com.
Superdrug added 11 new stores to its portfolio in 2022, bringing its total store count to over 830 across the UK and Ireland.
The retailer is a subsidiary of A.S Watson, which is part of the Hong Kong conglomerate CK Hutchison.
