FTSE 100 marching higher - Market Report

FTSE 100 marching higher - Market Report

The FTSE100 continued its seemingly inexorable march toward a new all-time high in early trading, as confirmation came that inflation here in the UK is showing signs of easing.

Consumer price inflation dipped marginally from 10.7% to 10.5%, aided by falling fuel and clothing prices, according to ONS economist Grant Fitzner - but food costs continued to rise.

Electricals retailer Curry’s has reported better than expected profits over the Christmas period, prompting it to hold to its full-year guidance despite the ostensibly tough consumer market environment.

But across the pond, Microsoft is cutting 11,000 jobs, in a move that suggests the pressure is not yet easing for the global tech sector.

In small caps, eCommerce tech firm Accesso hailed 2022 as a “strong year,” saying it won contracts with 18 new clients, ranging all the way from theme parks to zoos to ski resorts.

And finally, Top UK pawnbroker H&T saw its shares rise 4% in early trading after reporting a 30% year on year rise in sales.
