Earnings season gets into gear on both sides of the Atlantic in the coming week, with London's retailers continuing to flood to update on their festive trading, along with mining giants and several other big FTSE names.
Rio Tinto, Antofagasta, BHP and Centamin are among the miners, while retailers include Burberry, Ocado, WH Smith, Boohoo and Currys, and other notable names are Experian (LSE:EXPN), Pearson and 4imprint.
In macroeconomic news, the updates include US retail and housing data, while for ahead of the Bank of England meeting at the start of next month there are official jobs and inflation reports.
MONDAY 16 JANUARY
Rio Tinto PLC (LSE:RIO) will be the first of the Footise miners to provide a new year's update, with the sector having bounced back with a bang at the start of 2023 but investors wondering how much of it is sustainable.
Elsewhere, Ashmore Group (LSE:ASHM), the emerging market-focused asset manager, will be coming to market following a recovery for EM debt markets in the fourth quarter.
"The challenge remains turning the previous quarter's outflows into inflows, after a number of periods of weak sentiment towards the asset class," said broker Peel Hunt.

Based on some other clothing retailers, Boohoo should perform better than feared, said one analyst, although still weaker than its multichannel competitors.
In a completely different sector, games developer Frontier Developments's shares have been even worse than Boohoo's, 66% to 60% over the past 52 weeks, and after a recent profit warning, one set of analysts said its model is not broken but “raises deep questions” about the shares.
