Tesla Inc's (NASDAQ:TSLA) chief Elon Musk has moved to play down plans to site a new gigafactory in Indonesia in a tweet responding to a Bloomberg report stating it was ready to announce the new facility.
Musk said: "Please be cautious about writing articles citing 'unnamed sources', as they are frequently false."
Indonesia's cabinet minister Luhut Pandjaitan, who is leading the negotiations with Tesla, stated that talks are still ongoing but he declined to provide additional information due to a non-disclosure agreement that is in place.
Deep in the heart of Texas
Expansion does seem to be on the cards, however, for the Tesla plant in Texas.
According to the Austin Business Journal, Tesla is planning to invest US$717 million to expand its gigafactory with an additional 1.4 million square feet of space, bringing the total size of the facility to a massive 5.6 million square feet.
Construction on the expansion is expected to commence in the coming weeks and be completed by February 2024.
The plant is currently producing Model Y vehicles and is expected to be used to manufacture the Tesla Bot, Tesla Semi, and new vehicles built on the Gen 3 vehicle platform in the future.
