Is B&M a bargain? One leading investment bank has its say

Barclays Capital has increased its price target for B&M European Value Retail SA (LSE:BME) by 10p per share to 485p and reiterated its "overweight" rating on the stock following the company's third-quarter trading statement.

In the statement, B&M reported same-store sales growth of 6.4% for the third quarter, which implies growth of around 10% for the final seven weeks of the quarter.

Barclays noted that this strong rate of growth bodes well for the remainder of the year and could potentially lead to sales upside. However, the bank cautioned that this may be offset by "belt-tightening" by UK consumers in the early part of 2023.

Barclays also highlighted the strong sales growth delivered by B&M's Heron and B&M France divisions, which together accounted for almost 40% of B&M's third-quarter sales beat.

The bank hopes that these divisions can continue to outperform expectations and become more additive to the overall investment case.

The bank increased its earnings per share forecasts for the current year by around 2% and for the following two years by around 1%.

Currently, the shares are 452.57p, up 1%.
