Shares in Greencoat UK Wind PLC (LSE:UKW) opened higher in early trade after it emerged the country set a new record for wind power generation on 30 December.
A total of 20.91GW of power was produced by turbines such as Greencoat’s, according to the National Grid's electricity system operator (ESO).
The new record marks the third time Britain's wind energy capacity has set a new generation record in 2022.
At the same time, the share of electricity on the grid coming from zero-carbon sources, including renewables and nuclear, reached 87.2%, up from 55% to 59% in previous years.
The ESO said it had to ask some turbines in western Scotland to shut down in May when a then-record 19.9GW of power was produced, more than the network could store.
Greencoat, valued at £3.5bn, owns or has stakes in over 40 UK wind farms.
Its shares opened 1% higher at 154p. All six banks and research houses tracked as covering Greencoat are positive on the stock, and the consensus price target is 186p - a 22% premium to the current price.
