A senior investment banker at Spanish bank Santander UK operation has been accused of the harassment and bullying of female staff over a period of multiple years.
Eduardo Bastida is the chief risk officer for Santander corporate and investment banking, a role that requires mitigating any significant threats to the company’s earnings.
“Leadership skills, relationship building and the ability to manage change are now vital attributes for the CRO” the Institute of Risk Management said.
The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in Autumn launched an investigation into the claims, reports from Reuters revealed.
Santander is also reviewing the case with law firm Gibson Dunn, yet no conclusion has been made by either investigator.
In line with FCA’s code of conduct, if Bastida is fouind to have behaved inappropriately he will be dismissed from his role.
The banker reportedly took personal leave in November following the allegations and hasn’t returned.
