The FTSE 100 enjoyed a bright start to the day, kicking off what is likely to be a quiet week in the corporate world by climbing away from the five-week lows recorded on Friday.
The weekend just gone was far from quiet for retailers. Shoppers flocked to the country’s high streets on Sunday in an intense pre-Christmas rush that saw spending peak at £3mln per minute.
Sales at Swedish retailer IKEA rose by 12% during the year to 31st August, according to a release this morning. But its operating profit fell from £61mln in 2021 to £50mln, weighed down by rising energy, shipping and supply costs.
And in small caps, Tirupati Graphite has given more information about its possible acquisition of Suni Resources SA, outlining it will not take on any external debt as part of the agreement.
