Donald Trump has released a series of US$99 NTFs portraying him as a sheriff, astronaut, and a superhero among others.
The 44,000 NFTs quickly sold out on the website where they were advertised and followed Trump saying he’d make a ‘major announcement’ earlier this week.
NFTs stands for non-fungible token and is a unique identifier that signifies ownership of the image, this week various celebrities were sued for endorsing the bored ape NFT.
Purchasing a Trump NFT allows for entry into a sweepstake with a chance of winning prizes like a game of golf with Trump, though those who want can enter the sweepstake through mail-ins without purchasing an NFT.
The NFTs are minted on the polygon blockchain and can be sold or bought on any secondary trading platforms.
Republicans hit back at Trump including his former chief strategist Steve Bannon who said anyone working on the project “ought to be fired today”.
The former president announced plans for a 2024 White House bid last month
Any earnings from the NFT will not got towards Trump’s presidential campaign, the website stated.
"NFT INT LLC is not owned, managed or controlled by Donald J. Trump, The Trump Organization, CIC Digital LLC or any of their respective principals or affiliates," it said.
Interestingly, NFT INT LLC, which has offices in Utah, is not registered in the state and its owner remains unknown.
