MaxCyte Inc (AIM:MXCT) has signed a strategic platform licence with a South Korean biotechnology company to enable cell and gene therapies for the treatment of rare intractable diseases.
The cell engineering company said it will receive platform licensing fees and program-related revenue as part of the agreement.
Curamys, the South Korean firm, will obtain non-exclusive clinical and commercial rights to MaxCyte’s Flow Electroporation technology and ExPERT platform.
ExPERT, MaxCyte said, is “the next generation of leading, clinically-validated electroporation technology for complex and scalable cell engineering”.
According to the company's statement, Curamys is developing treatments for genetic and degenerative diseases through its cell fusion technology.
"A recent report estimates that there are more than 10,000 distinct rare diseases affecting 400 million people around the world," said Doug Doerfler, president and CEO of MaxCyte.
"We are honoured to support Curamys' efforts to develop its cell-fusion technology for novel cell-based treatments that provide hope and new options to patients and their families."

Curamys is MaxCyte’s 18th strategic platform licence.
