Beta Hunt Mine
The Beta Hunt Mine, located 600 km from Perth in Kambalda, Western Australia, is a deposit with the very rare feature of hosting both nickel and gold resources in adjacent discrete mineralized zones. The mining tenements on which the Beta Hunt Mine is located are held by Gold Fields Limited. SLM operates the Beta Hunt Mine by virtue of a sub-lease agreement with Gold Fields Limited.
RNC’s Dumont Nickel Project is near the town of Amos in the established Abitibi mining camp in the mining-friendly Canadian province of Québec. When in production, it is expected to rank as the fifth-largest nickel sulphide operation in the world by annual production – only the mining operations at Norilsk (Russia), Jinchuan (China), Sudbury (Ontario, Canada), Voisey’s Bay (Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada) will be larger.
The Dumont deposit contains approximately 6.9 billion pounds of nickel in the proven and probable reserve categories (a proven and probable reserve of 1,177 million tonnes at 0.27% nickel) and 9.75 billion pounds of nickel resources in the measured and indicated category (a measured resource of 372 million tonnes at 0.28% nickel and an indicated resource of 1.29 billion tonnes at 0.26% nickel). In the inferred resource category there is approximately 2.9 billion pounds of nickel (500 million tonnes at 0.26% nickel). Once in operation, the mine will produce nickel for over 30 years. Construction and operation of the mine and processing facilities will be made easier by the existence of excellent infrastructure, including roads, rail and access to low-cost power.
Ores from the mine will be processed using proven, conventional methods into a high-grade nickel concentrate, and then transported for further refining elsewhere. The mine will have no acid-generating rock or tailings, which has beneficial implications for environmental management.
A total of ten main significant mineralized areas have been discovered to date on the Qiqavik property as follows: Esperance, Esperance West, Horizon, Aurora, Aurora West, Gerfaut, Gerfaut South, ABG Zone, Focused Intrusive and Central Qiqavik.
The results from the 2017 exploration season at Qiqavik include three new drill-supported high-grade gold discoveries and five new high-grade gold prospecting discoveries at surface that remain untested by drilling. Orford also identified a significant structural break, the Qiqavik break, across the 40 km property, a substantial portion of which is left to be explored.
The Qiqavik property sits in the volcano-sedimentary Parent Group of the Cape Smith Belt dominated by basalts and basaltic to andesitic pyroclastics interlayered with thin clastic sediment bands. Several mafic to ultramafic sills as well as dioritic to tonalitic post-tetonic intrusive intrude the volcano-sedimentary package.
The parallel ultramafic “Raglan Belt” has yielded world-class nickel/PGE deposits, but the northern volcano-sedimentary portion of the Cape Smith Belt remains virtually unexplored.
West Raglan Project
West Raglan is an advanced stage Ni-Cu-PGE exploration project in the Cape Smith Belt, Nunavik, Quebec. The Cape Smith Belt hosts high grade polymetallic nickel deposits, including two operating mines: Nunavik Nickel and Glencore’s Raglan operation.
The geology of the West Raglan property comprises the volcanic and sedimentary rocks of the Chukotat and Povungnituk Groups, intruded by the Lac Esker Suite of ultramafic rocks. The ultramafic intrusions of the Frontier Zone of West Raglan Property are located at the same stratigraphic position as all of Glencore’s Raglan Mine deposits.
Exploration work to date at West Raglan has identified outcropping sulphide mineralization over more than 35 km of strike length with very limited testing at many zones. Magnetic signatures, lithogeochemistry, and geology are the same at West Raglan’s Frontier zone as Glencore’s Raglan Mine. The Southern part of property has magnetic and till anomalies suggestive of Nunavik Mine (South Trend) style mineralization (larger tonnage, high Cu and PGM).
Hudbay Reed Exploration JV
RNC holds a 30% interest in the Hudbay Reed Exploration Joint Venture as a result of RNC’s acquisition of VMS Ventures in 2016.
Hudbay is 70% owner and acts as the operator of the joint venture with authority and discretion of the exploration and potential development of the property and has exclusive rights to purchase and market the ore produced from the property.
The joint venture relates to four separate but contiguous claims blocks surrounding the Reed Copper Deposit JV: the Tower Zone, Super Zone Claim, Northwest Zone Claim and Northeast Zone Claim properties.
Exploration to date has included airborne and ground geophysical techniques including VTEM and ground TDEM surveys. Targets have been discovered and drill tested (Reed North discovery) with interesting intersections however no significant economic zones of mineralization have been located.
