Symphony Environmental seeing 'very positive' Saudi interest in plastic additive Michael Laurier, chief executive of Symphony Environmental Technologies plc (LON:SYM) tells Proactive they're benefiting first hand from the recent decision by the Saudi Arabian government to make oxo-biodegradable plastic compulsory for a wide range of plastic products.

Saudi switch to oxo-biodegradable plastic 'a major event' for Symphony Environment, says CEO Symphony Environmental Technologies plc (LON:SYM) has hailed Saudi Arabia's decision to make oxo-biodegradable plastic compulsory for a wide range of locally-manufactured and imported plastic products.

It comes as the firm received a quality market for their product d2w – a requirement for its use in the country.

‘'This is the world's largest oil producer, it also happens to be one of the world's largest producers of plastic film and packaging .... to have this country choose to  deal with the plastic pollution problem by using our technology is a major event and it is our hope that a lot of other countries will take notice of this'', says chief executive Michael Laurier.

‘Running just to stand still’, but can Reckitt shares surpass £80? Leading technical analyst Zak Mir is tipping the Reckitt Benckiser PLC (LON:RB.) share price to test the £80 level in the coming weeks.

“There was a bit of a wobble over February which was clearly influenced by the Unilever and Kraft ‘no deal’,” explains Mir in the latest Proactive Investors Bulletin Board.

“At least while we’re above the 50-day average of £69.14, the upside over the next three to four months looks to be £80 plus.”

Should investors be buying Reckitt Benckiser on dips? That’s the word from technical analyst Zak Mir, who reckons the Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC (LON:RB.) share price could be set to test recent resistance of £75.

“Support for the shares is really at the £67 area which is the July 2015 uptrend line,” says Mir in the latest Proactive Investors Bulletin Board.

“While we hold above that one would say that the stock is still a buy on dips and for shares to return towards the £74 to £75 resistance zone.”

British American Tobacco rising chart explains Reynolds move says Zak Mir British American Tobacco plc’s (LON:BATS) rising share price chart helps explain why the UK listed group could make its move for Reynolds, so says technical analyst Zak Mir.

The FTSE 100 constituent launched its US$47bn merger, as it offered cash and shares to acquire the 42% of Reynolds that it didn’t already own.

“I am surprised [at the deal] in the sense that you’d have thought that with the dollar being much stronger, that would’ve put off BAT from spending more cash,” Mir says in a Tip TV segment for Proactive Investors.

“But, strategically it needs to be done and they’ve bitten the bullet.”

“BAT was already benefitting from the stronger dollar, and so the shares have rallied by 10-20% … it [the company] has taken advantage of the share price rise to then make its move … so, that’s the explanation as far as the mystery is concerned.”

Symphony Environmental Technologies plc says first product listing could be "game-changer" Boss of recyclable plastics group Symphony Environmental Technologies plc (LON:SYM) Michael Laurier said the group was "incredibly encouraged"  by news of a new product listing with a leading UK retailer.
The listing of the d2p finished product is for delivery to the unnamed retailer in early 2017, and could be a  very big "game changer" for the company, he told Proactive's Stocktube team.
"This is the first listing ever that Symphony has had for a d2p product in a major retail group so we are extremely encouraged..," said Laurier.
Earlier the firm said an initial order and letter of credit for $160,000 had been received for a new application in the d2p range.
The firm is "extremely encouraged on these two fronts alone,"  declared Laurier.
The firm's six months to end June showed a move into profit as its cost cutting measures take hold.
Revenues in the six months to June dipped to £3.23mln (£3.42mln), but costs were reduced by £342,000 which enabled the  group to post a profit of £19,000 (loss £181,000).
Symphony added that over the full year its cost programme will save around £750,000.
Laurier said: "Cost cutting has shown to that its working and the research and development programmes as a result of that, hasn't been affected."

Allaying Europe recycling concerns an important step forward, says Symphony chief Michael Laurier, chief executive of Symphony Environmental Technologies plc (LON:SYM), says the latest survey by a government-backed testing facility in Austria is proof once and for all that its technology is recyclable and safe.

“It is our intention to continue being at the heart of the recycling debate in Europe,” says Laurier after the Transfercenter fur Kunststofftechnik confirmed that its oil–based plastic had no material effect on the recycling process or on recycled plastic products.

This means it can be used in the manufacturing of thick cross-section plastic products, says Laurier.

The study puts to bed any concerns over Symphony’s impact on the recycling business in Europe, which is an important step forward for the group.

“We’re on course for a much better 2016,” says Laurier.

Symphony Environmental chief confident of sales growth in 2016 Michael Laurier, chief executive of eco-friendly plastics maker Symphony Environmental Technologies PLC (LON:SYM), says the news that sales in the first quarter of 2016 are up 8% on a year ago is “a very encouraging sign”.

Revenues have started to pick up this year after a flat 2015 but Laurier adds the firm is “looking for much, much stronger growth that the initial 8% that we are showing”.

He says last year’s results were hit by a delay in the enforcement of new eco-legislations, but that this is starting to take effect in 2016, leaving him “pretty confident revenues will continue to rise”.

Symphony Environmental CEO calls on govt to scrap tax for green bags Michael Laurier, chief executive of degradable-plastics firm Symphony Environmental (LON:SYM), has urged the government to exempt biodegradable bags from the shopping bag tax to be introduced next month.

Ministers are bringing in a 5p charge for plastic bags in England from October to cut their use.

As things stand, the plan for the levy does not distinguish between traditional plastic carrier bags and those that are both biodegradable and recyclable.
