The miner reported a strong final quarter of 2017 for its New Luika Gold Mine, in Southwest Tanzania, with gold production of 21,288 ounces, an increase of 17% on the third quarter.

Annual gold production for 2017 was 79,585 oz, consistent with its guidance of approximately 80,000 oz.

The group said its annual guidance for 2018 is 82,000−88,000 oz.

Lionsgold secures strategic deal with Railsbank for Goldbloc Cameron Parry, chief executive of Lionsgold Limited (LON:LION), speaks to Proactive's Andrew Scott about their binding heads of agreement with global banking platform provider Railsbank for Goldbloc.

As part of the deal Lionsgold will invest £1.25mln in Railsbank from existing cash for a 12.5% stake.

Parry says the move secures Goldbloc's future as a digital gold currency.

Hummingbird Resources entering 2018 in a very strong position Bert Monro, head of business development at Hummingbird Resources Ltd (LON:HUM) tells Proactive they wrapped up 2017 with around US$40mln in cash in the bank and gold flowing from the furnaces at the new Yanfolila mine in Mali.

Hummingbird poured its first gold in the second half of December, following a build and commissioning process that was completed on time and on budget.

Caledonia Mining's Blanket Mine continuing to punch above its weight Steve Curtis, chief executive of Caledonia Mining Corporation PLC (LON:CMCL TSX:CAL) tells Proactive's Andrew Scott they racked up another record quarter at the Blanket mine.

Production at the 49% owned mine totalled 16,425 ounces of gold in the three months to December, 14% more than the previous quarter and 21% higher than a year ago.

For 2017 in total, production was 11% higher than the previous year at 56,135 ounces, which was just ahead of guidance and also a yearly record for Blanket.

Greatland Gold in a 'terrific position' after multiple new targets identified at Ernest Giles Gervaise Heddle, chief executive of Greatland Gold plc (LON:GGP), tells Proactive their involvement with Newmont Mining (NYSE:NYM) at the Ernest Giles project has left the project considerably better off.

Newmont undertook a Deep Sensing Geochemistry survey at Ernest Giles and defined a new large gold anomaly covering an area of approximately 5 kilometres by 1.5 kilometres untested by previous drilling.

Greatland anticipates that it will be lodging a Programme of Work with the Western Australian Department of Mines and Petroleum in the next two weeks and, subject to approval, anticipates commencing a targeted exploration campaign at Ernest Giles in the first quarter of this year.

Hummingbird celebrates initial gold pour at the Yanfolila gold mine Hummingbird Resources PLC (LON:HUM) Head of Business Development Robert Monro announces the pouring of the first gold at the Yanfolila Gold Mine in southern Mali from the carbon-in-leach (CIL) circuit on time and on budget.
The company will now turn its focus to completing commissioning and ramping up to commercial production. It is targeting 130,000 ounces of gold in the first full year of operations. Robert also brings us up to date on plans for their forward programme for 2018 while at the same time expressing the desire to maximise early-stage exploration and make the next big gold discoveries.

Big step-change for Horizonte Minerals with 'exciting' nickel-cobalt acquisition Jeremy Martin, chief executive of Horizonte Minerals Plc tells Proactive they're to acquire the advanced Vermelho nickel-cobalt project in Brazil from the Brazilian national mining champion Vale for US$8mln, mostly in deferred payments.

Concurrently, Horizonte is raising up to £8.5mln in a placing of shares in the UK and Canada at 3.5p per Placing Share. 

The Vermelho project has a high grade scalable mineral resource with over 1mln tonnes of contained nickel and 43,000 tonnes of contained cobalt. The combination of Horizonte’s Araguaia nickel project, which is now in the advanced stages of development, with Vermelho looks set to create a real force in global nickel production.

Busy run-up to Christmas for London’s junior miners Mining Capital’s Alastair Ford caught up with Proactive’s Andrew Scott to chat through Horizonte Minerals Plc’s (LON:HZM, TSE:HZM) acquisition of the advanced Vermelho nickel-cobalt project in Brazil. They’re paying US$8 million for it - mostly in deferred payments.

Ford also discusses Base Resources Limited’s (LON:BSE) move to acquire the Toliara Sands project in Madagascar in a deal that will be funded by a US$100 mln placing and entitlement offer.

Also up for discussion is the news that European Metals Holdings Limited (LON:EMH) has added Cinovec NorthWest to the areas under consideration by the Czech State resource register for the granting of a mining license. Cinovec South was first put up for consideration back in February.

Plus – the changing of the guard at Vast Resources PLC (LON:VAST) as Andrew Prelea takes over as CEO.

Ariana Resources' Salinbas exploration 'a project with legs', says Kerim Sener Managing director Kerim Sener brought us up to date on Ariana Resources plc (LON:AAU) at Mines & Money 2017.

He told Proactive Investors’ presenter Andrew Scott they've reached the end of the current exploration field season at Salinbas and they're now processing all the data they've collected over the last couple of months.

Sener says the numbers are made up of data from both the Ardala as well as the Salinbas areas … and they've also completed geochemistry right across the Hot Gold corridor.

He adds they're also pretty close to a resource estimate at Tavsan.

Greatland Gold well financed with a busy year of exploration ahead Greatland Gold plc (LON:GGP) chief executive Gervaise Heddle and chief technical officer Callum Baxter caught up with Proactive  while in London to update on their work programmes at Panorama and Paterson in Western Australia.

Earlier this month they picked up the Black Hills gold project in the Paterson region for A$225,000.

Shanta Gold publishes first resource for Singida Eric Zurrin, chief executive at Shanta Gold (LON:SHG), runs Proactive through their first official resource at Singida - one of the miners two main deposits in Tanzania.

The junior operates the New Luika mine but Singida, in the centre of the country, is at a much earlier stage of development.

The Australian standard JORC resource of 728,000oz stems from 12.3mt at a grade of 1.84 g/t. The cut-off grade was 1.0 g/t.

Added to the resources already identified at New Luika, Shanta now has 2mln ounces of gold delineated in Tanzania.

Bezant Resources successfully verifies grades down to bedrock at Choco Bernard Olivier, chief executive of Bezant Resources plc (LON:BZT), tells Proactive they've moved to the next phase in the ramp-up of production at the Choco alluvial mine in Colombia after successful grade verification work.

Caledonia Mining's Blanket mine still has a lot of life left in it yet, says CEO Curtis Steve Curtis, chief executive of Caledonia Mining Corporation PLC (LON:CMCL), tells Proactive that revenues from gold production at the Blanket gold mine in Zimbabwe rose to over US$18.2 mln in the third quarter, up from the US$17.6 mln generated in the same period a year ago.

Pre-tax profit rose to US$6.2 mln, up from US$4.1 mln a year ago.

Scotgold Resources keen to crack on with construction after £2.65 mln raise Richard Gray, chief executive of Scotgold Resources Limited (LON:SGZ), tells Proactive they've raised £2.65 mln via a rights issue offering two new shares for every three already held.

The offer price is 25p, although for each five existing shares shareholders also get one new option priced at 40p.

Greatland Gold spots potential gold-bearing conglomerates at Panorama in Pilbara Greatland Gold plc (LON:GGP) chief executive Gervaise Heddle and Chief Technical Officer Calum Baxter tell Proactive's Andrew Scott that an ongoing review of historical data and initial field reconnaissance has highlighted additional gold potential at the Panorama project in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

Amongst the highlights from the northern licence area are multiple historic rock chip samples with an elevated gold response along a 3.2 kilometre zone, including results of 10.5 grams per tonne gold, 14 grams per tonne and 66 grams.

On the southern licence area, government geological mapping has confirmed the presence of coarse grained sandstones and conglomerates at two locations, with one of the areas showing a co-incident gold in streams anomaly peaking at 4.6ppb gold.

Ariana Resources enjoys excellent first quarter of commercial production Kerim Sener, managing director for Ariana Resources plc (LON:AAU), tells Proactive they produced and sold 3,762 ounces of gold and 15,985 ounces of silver from the Kiziltepe mine in Turkey during the quarter ended 30 September 2017 - exceeding forecasts by around 6%.

The quarterly figures take total production to date up to 5,691 ounces of gold and 30,504 ounces of silver.
