Galileo Resources PLC could be drilling at Concordia as early as January Galileo Resources PLC (LON:GLR) is about to kick off geophysical exploration at its Concordia copper project in South Africa next month, starting with one of its top three targets for open pit mining: Homeep.
Chairman and chief executive Colin Bird tells Proactive Investors that the indicated grades have been 0.8% and north of that figure in some parts, which is a relatively high grade for an open pit. For non-mining buffs, he throws in a quick explanation of the induced polarisation (IP) technique that should direct the company to where the best grades are.
“Concordia has all the makings of a big project,” Bird said.

Galileo chief out to find “tomorrow’s copper” Colin Bird, chief executive of Galileo Resources PLC (LON:GLR) says, while there is an oversupply in the copper market at the moment, there is “a massive opportunity now to find tomorrow’s copper”.

He adds that by “tomorrow’s copper”, he means making a discovery in 2017 or 2018, with his strategy to either sell the discovery on, or develop it, which typically takes around eight years.

Currently, the company is working on its Concordia site in South Africa, and Bird says the development “has the potential to be one of the big four pits in the world”.

Galileo Resources confident on copper price recovery in medium term Colin Bird, chairman & chief executive of Galileo Resources (LON:GLR), comments on the company’s gold/copper project in Nevada, USA and its 51% owned phosphate, rare-earth and copper asset in South Africa.

Speaking to Proactive, Bird says he’s unconcerned by the current copper rout, as Galileo’s board has a strong conviction on the mid-term fundamentals of the metal.

Most forecasters are of the opinion that copper demand will double by 2023, Bird says, adding that today's mines are big and to discover, evaluate and construct takes some eight years.

His comments follow the acquisition of St Vincent Minerals, which has two gold-copper projects in the stable jurisdiction of Nevada.
