Rex Bionics PLC modified exoskeleton to assist amputees – CEO

Crispin Simon, chief executive of Rex Bionics PLC (LON:RXB), says a collaboration with the US Army to adapt the company’s robotic exoskeleton for use by amputees expands the technology’s capabilities.

Currently Rex’s equipment helps the disabled walk upright and is being developed to aid physiotherapy for people with spinal cord and traumatic brain injury. With the US military, Rex will adapt the exoskeleton for soldiers who have lost lower limbs in atrocities such as roadside bombs.

Simon tells Proactive that in addition to injured military personnel, the modified Rex would have multiple applications and also assist civilians who have lost lower limbs due to mines, diabetic foot and leg ulcers.
