Exploration strategy

Norwest has a lean and tightly focused structure; highly prospective acreage in overlooked areas; good relationships with joint venture partners and contractors; the ability to use survey technology effectively and at relatively low cost; and a busy but achievable exploration program.

Norwest’s core regions of operation – the northern Perth Basin and onshore southern England’s Wessex Basin – are known petroleum provinces but are underexplored. They offer relatively low entry costs but have significant potential. The Company’s regional specialisation has enabled it to build a significant body of knowledge about these basins. Information gleaned from work in one permit tends to be relevant to the Company’s other permits in the same basin and operational synergies can be achieved.

Norwest has also built expertise with an underused and cost-effective exploration technology – full-tensor gravity gradiometry imaging (FTG). This technology helps deliver more geological information at a lower cost and is covered in more detail in another part of this website.

Michael John Fry, B.Com, FFSIA
(Chairman)

Mr Fry has extensive experience in capital markets and corporate treasury management specialising in the identification of commodity, currency and interest rate risk and the implementation of risk management strategies. He is the Chairman of Red Fork Energy Limited and he is also a director of ASX listed companies Liberty Resources Limited and Sunset Energy Limited. Mr Fry holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Western Australia and is a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia and a past member of the ASX.


Peter Lawson Munachen, FCA, FAICD
(Chief Executive Office and Director)

Mr Munachen has 37 years corporate and administration experience in hydrocarbon and mineral resources companies. He has served as a director / officer of a number of listed companies, specializing in corporate finance and project acquisition. Also, he is a director of Austral Africa Resources Ltd and a non-executive director of Currie Rose Resources Inc (TSX).


Henry David Kennedy
BA(Geology), MA(Geology), Member of SME, CIMMP, SEG, PESA, AIG

Mr Kennedy has had a long association with Australian and New Zealand resource companies and as a technical director has been instrumental in the formation and/or development of a number of successful listed companies, including Pan Pacific Petroleum NL, New Zealand Oil and Gas Limited, Mineral Resources (NZ) Ltd and Otter Exploration NL.

During his term as Executive Director of Otter, Pan Pacific and NZOG, these companies were involved in discovery of the Tubridgi gas field and South Pepper, North Herald and Chervil oil fields in Western Australia and the Kupe South and Rua oil/gas condensate fields in New Zealand.

As Chairman and Chief Executive of Kiwi International Resources NL and Associated Gold Fields NL, Mr Kennedy was involved in the discovery and development of the Obotan gold project in Ghana prior to the Company being merged with Resolute Samantha Ltd in May/June 1996.

He is also Chairman of Pancontinental Oil & Gas NL.
