J. Smart & Co. (Contractors) PLC is a United Kingdom-based company. The Company is engaged in building and public works contracting of all types. It is also engaged in building for sale of private houses, carrying out of industrial and commercial developments and redevelopments for sale or lease, and the manufacture for sale of concrete building products. During the fiscal year ended July 31, 2008, the Company was involved in civil engineering contracts for local authorities, enterprise companies, private house builders, private clients, and emergency call-out and remedial works for the coal authority. It was also engaged in manufacture and sale of hydraulically pressed concrete products (kerbs and paving slabs). The Company’s subsidiaries include McGowan & Co. (Contractors) Limited, Cramond Real Estate Company Limited, Thomas Menzies (Builders) Limited, Concrete Products (Kirkcaldy) Limited, C. & W. Assets Limited and King & Ritchie Limited.
