Plantic secures supply deal from Kesko for biodegradable thermoformed sheets

3rd Nov 2009, 10:47 am Plantic secures supply deal from Kesko for biodegradable thermoformed sheets

Biodegradable plastics manufacturer Plantic Technologies Limited (AIM: PLNT) is looking to expand its market reach with a new collaboration deal with German packaging supplier Kesko GmbH, which has a considerable presence in high-end packaging markets.

Under the terms of the agreement, Plantics will supply biodegradable thermoformed sheet for BIOBlister and all BIO oriented packaging to Kesko, which provides a wide range of packaging products to the pharmaceutical and cosmetics markets. This is expected to promote Plantic’s products and help the company gain a stronger footing in these market areas.

“Kesko is the perfect partner for establishing a significant presence in the cosmetic and pharmaceutical industry. Kesko enjoys an excellent reputation for quality and reliability and we are very pleased that they have chosen our technology to help us attack this important area of the market,” said General Manager of Plantic Germany Norbert-Rainer Schmidt.

Plantic said its biodegradable packaging used less than 50% of the energy and up to 70% less green house gas emissions of traditional plastic.

Plantic has recently opened a manufacturing plant in the city of Jena in Thuringia, Germany, looking to expand its presence in the continent. The facility became fully operations in February, already supplying a wide range of customers in Europe, including a major German food manufacturer.
