Connemara Mining Company plc was established in 2006 by veterans of the Irish zinc industry to exploit zinc opportunities in Ireland and currently holds 38 prospecting licences in central and south-west Ireland. Connemara’s licences are for some or all of the base metals (Bm), barite (b), gold (g), silver (s), and platinum group elements (PGE). The Connemara exploration philosophy is trendology and closeology - follow the mineralised trends and obtain ground as close as possible to existing or former zinc/lead mines.
Connemara Mining sufficiently funded as it carries on 2009 drilling program
Irish zinc explorer Connemara Mining Company PLC (AIM: CON) is planning a further 5,000 plus metres of drilling, in possibly 15 holes, during the remainder of 2009 at its Stonepark project in County Limerick where good results in 2008 were topped by a very promising zinc-lead find on the first hole of the 2009 drilling campaign, as announced earlier this month.
The comment came along results for the first half to end-June 2009, which showed pretax loss narrowing to €111,000 from €236,000 a year earlier. Connemara expects expenditure in the coming months to rise as it contributes to the drilling cost in Limerick, adding it has sufficient cash for its immediate needs.
Drilling is being co-funded 75 percent by operator Teck Resources (TSX, NYSE: TCK; formerly Teck Cominco) and 25 percent by Connemara. The immediate exploration plan is to find more zones. The target is to define the overall size of the mineralised system and then drill out individual zones.
Apart from the success at Stonepark, where the first 2009 hole showed the best results on the project to date, work is also continuing on its 100 percent owned licences. Drilling has commenced on the Castlemaine Licence block in Kerry. Geophysics, mapping and modelling have identified anomalies which will be drill tested in the coming weeks. Earlier work on the five licence block Lough Sheelin area found significant zinc mineralisation. More drilling is needed.
Apart from Limerick, where Connemara holds sixteen licences, in joint venture with Teck Resources, and the five licences at Lough Sheelin on the Meath / Cavan border, it has highly prospective ground in Thurles, Moate and Nenagh, it added.
