Junior explorer BE Resources (CVE:BER) said Thursday that it has been given permission to drill an additional 12 holes within the boundaries of its initial permit area at its Warm Springs beryllium project in New Mexico.

The modification to the exploration permit was granted by the Mining and Minerals Division of New Mexico, which is currently reviewing permitting for another eight holes.

The company said that work on the new drill program has already begun, and will focus on the area surrounding the first hole (Hole DH#5) drilled in BE's last program. The new holes will range in depth from 200 to 650 feet.

According to BE, results from that first drill hole indicated that the company intersected a beryllium-mineralized zone in excess of 100 feet in thickness, with maximum grades exceeding 1% beryllium oxide.

"The focused drill program around Hole DH#5 is designed to define a beryllium resource at Warm Springs, specifically in areas where we have already discovered significant mineralization," said president and CEO David Tognoni.

Beryllium is a rare metal known for its light weight, strength and temperature resistance. It is used in the aerospace and defence industries, as well as in electrical components.
