Savannah Resources (LON:SAV) has begun a ground electromagnetic survey on the Block 5 copper project in a mineral rich area of Oman.
The four-week programme will assess the potential of six priority targets identified by the reprocessing of data and via a geological review.
Savannah's chief executive David Archer said information compiled from the process will provide the last layer of detail needed for final targeting of exploration holes on Block 5.
Drilling is expected to get underway in the first quarter of next year and will attempt to hone in on high-grade volcanic massive sulphide mineralisation.
"Past explorers have already identified two VMS deposits within Block 5 and, given that VMS deposits tend to occur in clusters, we think our new, integrated exploration approach has a high chance of discovering additional VMS deposits,” said Archer.
The block currently has a modest indicated and inferred resources of 1.7mln tonnes at 2.2% copper, including 500,000 tonnes at 4.5% copper.
