Karin Ireton has been appointed to the board of Aureus Mining (LON:AUE, TSE:AUE) as a nominee of long-time backer, the International Finance Corporation (IFC).

Ireton is replacing Luis da Silva, who has resigned as a director, having served on the Aureus board since 2011.

Ireton is a leader in the sustainable development field and has served as head of Group Sustainability Management at Standard Bank since 2009. During this time she has been responsible for building the bank's environmental and social risk policy, its human rights policy, protocols and tools and embedding these across the Standard Bank Group.

Prior to this Ireton worked for mining leviathan Anglo American.

“Her depth of experience in the fields of environmental and sustainable development will complement the current team in building Aureus into a sustainable and responsible gold producer,” said David Netherway, chairman of Aureus, who also thanked da Silva for his services to the company.
