Tullow unearths fourth new oil discovery in KenyaSeptember 26 2013, 8:00am
The Ekales 1 oil discovery on Block 13T, in northern Kenya, has unearthed between 60 to 100 metres of potential oil pay across two sandstone reservoirs.
It is now planning flow tests to confirm the possible productivity possible in these reservoirs.
The reservoirs are similar to Tullow’s three prior discoveries, the company said.
The drill rig is now being moved ready for the next well in the programme, Amosing 1.
Meanwhile, drilling continues on the Agete 1 well, on the same licence block, and the pace of drilling is expected to rise shortly as a third rig joins the campaign in the fourth quarter.
"This success at the Ekales-1 wildcat is further evidence of the exceptional oil potential of our East African Rift Basin acreage,” said Angus McCoss, exploration director.
“Having opened the first basin with the Ngamia-1 well last year, we are now increasing the pace of exploration in Kenya aiming for 12 wells over the next 12 months."
Tullow has a 50% stake in Block 13T, alongside partner Africa Oil.
