Coal of Africa submits environmental studies for Vele colliery project in South Africa
South Africa-focused Coal of Africa Ltd (AIM, ASX, JSE: CZA) said it has submitted an Environmental Impact Assessment and Environmental Management Programme to the Department of Minerals and Energy as part of new order mining right application for the Vele colliery project.
The company has committed to spending Rand500 million over thirty years to ensure the highest levels of environmental and social performance.
Despite recent media reports to the contrary, the proposed Vele project is not located within the Mapungubwe National Park, it added.
The project will be located approximately 48 kilometres west of Musina, adjacent to existing intensive agriculture on the Limpopo river bordering Zimbabwe.
