Weir Group says enters 2009 in a ‘good position’ after strong Q4

The Weir Group PLC said it continued to perform well in the final quarter to December 26 2009, in particular lifted by the strengthening of the US dollar against sterling, and it enters 2009 in a good position.


The company said it grew input, revenue and profit on a constant currency basis in the quarter compared to the equivalent prior year period.


In a trading update covering the 52 weeks to December 26, it said that as a result of its good performance  in the  year and the foreign currency translation benefits  it expect  the full-year  pretax profit from continuing operations  before  amortisation  and exceptional items  to increase  to around £174 million.


Net debt at December 31 2008 is expected to be lower than the half-year figure of £261.7 million, it added.
Weir provides engineering services to the oil and gas, mining and power industries.
