Northern Petroleum moves towards bringing Ottoland on stream
Northern Petroleum (LON:NOP) has completed an extended well test at the Ottoland oil discovery offshore Netherlands, it announced today.
Analysis of the test results, which included the use of a jet pump to assist oil flow, will allow the firm to predict oil and gas production rates.
The firm said production facilities can then be designed to meet the potential for both oil and gas.
Simultaneously, work will also be carried out on an oil marketing plan.
Northern said today that it is currently projected that production could be achieved in 2012 or 2013, subject to required statutory approvals.
Managing director Derek Musgrove said: "The long wait for permissions to conduct this test as we desired has been
rewarded.
"Following the anticipated confirmation of commerciality, we look forward to bringing the field on stream as soon as possible to augment our existing production in The Netherlands."
Earlier this month, the company announced it had sold its interest in the Vinkega gas field in the Netherlands for €3.2 million
Discovered after the Vinkega-1 well was drilled in late 2009, the Vinkega field has been mapped as underlying both part of the Gorredijk licence (owned by Vermilion Oil & Gas Netherlands) and part of the Drenthe III licence, in which Northern Petroleum Nederland holds a stake.
“The sale will enable a smooth transition into production under Vermilion's team and make a useful financial contribution to our hopefully successful exploration activities on the Drenthe III licence in the near future,” Musgrove had told investors.
“Northern considered that Vinkega was not a prospect of sufficient size and structural appeal to have attracted a wildcat well on the Drenthe III licence alone."
