Peninsula Energy steps closer to mine permit at Ross Uranium project

16th May 2011, 3:56 am

Peninsula Energy's (ASX: PEN) Ross In-Situ Recovery (ISR) license application is advancing ahead of schedule according to recent feedback from the key U.S. regulatory agencies, and "technical comments" should now be received by late May/early June.

The Land Quality Division of the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality (WDEQ/LQD) deemed the application for a permit to mine complete and adequate for technical review in March 2011.

Previously, Peninsula’s wholly owned subsidiary Strata Energy Inc anticipated technical comments to the application by 24 July, 2011.

The WDEQ/LQD have now indicated that Strata should receive these technical comments ahead of expectations and statutory guidelines.

Strata has also received notification from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) that is has completed its administrative and technical review process of the Ross application and determined that it is complete and without any deficiencies.

This notification follows on from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) confirmation in early May that it had commenced its formal safety and environmental acceptance review of the Ross license application. The NRC expect to complete this review prior to 2 July, 2011.

The permits reflect the quality of the application studies, the licence applications, the ongoing outreach program and the level of acceptability of uranium extraction in Wyoming.

Peninsula continues to expand its uranium and molybdenum exposure across several continents, with the latest high grade hits coming from Site 22 in the Karoo project, in South Africa.
