Indicator Minerals starts 5,000 metre first phase of drilling at Mohave
Canadian mineral explorer Indicator Minerals (CVE:IME) said Tuesday it has started a 5,000 metre core drilling program at its Mohave copper project in northwestern Arizona.
"Drilling has started and we are eager to evaluate the economic potential of Mohave," said president and CEO Bruce Counts.
"This is the first modern, comprehensive drilling program on the property and it offers us the opportunity to test the extent of the copper, molybdenum and silver mineralization on the project."
The 2011 campaign will be comprised of two phases, the first of which is now underway and is intended to test a number of targets identified through induced polarization (IP) surveys, rock and soil sampling and geological mapping.
The extent of mineralization at the property will be tested over a wide area, with 15 to 20 drill holes planned, with depths between 300m to 500m.
The second 5,000 metre phase of drilling will build on the results of the prior phase, and is scheduled for the third or fourth quarter.
The Mohave project is a large-scale, copper porphyry deposit, with significant silver and molybdenum credits. The geology of the property is believed to be analogous to the Bagdad Copper Porphyry Mine, which is operated by Freeport McMoRan (NYSE:FCX), and located within 35 kilometres of Mohave.
