Selwyn with its 50% joint venture partner, Yunnan Chihong Zinc & Germanium Co. Ltd., is advancing the Selwyn Project in Yukon and Northwest territories to bankable feasibility and development. Chihong is funding the next $100M of exploration and development activities. Chihong is a fully integrated mining and smelting company based in southern China. Together the partners will seek project financing from Chinese banks.
Selwyn Project hosts perhaps the largest undeveloped zinc-lead deposit in the World. Initial mine development will focus on 16.06M tonnes of high grade Indicated mineral resources grading 10.06 % zinc and 4.23% lead and 26.70M tonnes grading 8.81% zinc and 2.81% lead. Initial mine production is forecast at 255,000 tpa of zinc and 65,000 tpa of lead in concentrate; commencing as early as late 2013, coinciding with forecast shortfalls in mine supply.
Selwyn confirms high grade zinc-lead mineralization at Don deposit
Selwyn Resources (CVE:SWN) announced Tuesday further drill results from the Don deposit at its Selwyn zinc-lead project in the Yukon, intersecting thick zones of high grade mineralization.
The results reported today are from the high grade 61-lens of the deposit, and are part of the definition drill program at the site, designed to confirm known mineral resources.
Notable intersections include 23.41 metres grading 8.41% zinc and 3.32% lead, including 11.22 metres grading 13.5% zinc and 5.48% lead in hole DON-176; and 29.38 metres grading 5.61% zinc and 1.97% lead, including 2.87 metres at 13.97% zinc and 5.51% lead in hole DON-172.
Selwyn said that thick intersections of zinc-lead mineralization, such as those in DON-172, could provide opportunities for optimizing a mine plan for the Don deposit, as part of an ongoing feasibility study.
Today's news follows the company's release of results from initial drill holes at the 61-lens last week. The current NI 43-101 compliant mineral resource of the Don deposit is composed of three lenses in the underground environment: the 61-lens, 62-lens, and the 63-lens, each of which is structurally bounded by faults.
The company said that drilling will continue at the Don deposit with four rigs, and plans to use the results for a new mineral resource estimate.
At Don, the previous NI 43-101 compliant indicated mineral resource was 5.325 million tonnes grading 9.98% zinc and 3.86% lead, with an inferred mineral resource of 5.335 million tonnes grading 7.94% zinc and 2.95% lead.
Drilling at the Selwyn project is being conducted by Selwyn Chihong Mining, the joint venture equally owned by Selwyn and Chihong Mining Canada.
