Everton Resources and Brigus Gold begin deep drill program at Ampliacion gold project
Everton Resources (CVE:EVR) and its partner Brigus Gold Corp. (TSE:BRD) (AMEX:BRD) said Wednesday they have begun a deep drilling program at their Ampliacion Pueblo Viejo concession in the Dominican Republic.
The first phase of the two part program will consist of 10,000 metres of drilling in holes ranging from 400 to 600 metres, designed to test geochemical anomalies in rocks and soil for gold.
The second part of the campaign, which should start in April, will be the deepest drilling component, and will test holes ranging between 800 and 1200 metres deep, totaling more than 10,000 metres. This will be designed to test the lithocap theory, which suggests that high sulphidation type mineralization may be concealed by the lithocap.
The companies said the lithocap is also associated with a large magnetic high anomaly, which will be the target of the deeper drill holes.
"Our decision to step up to a more robust drilling schedule was based upon test results that showed us a consistency of rising value in this project," said president and CEO of Everton, Andre Audet.
The Ampliacion concession is located adjacent to Barrick (NYSE:ABX)(TSE:ABX) and Goldcorp's (NYSE:GG)(TSE:G) US$3 billion Pueblo Viejo gold deposit.
"The purpose of deep drilling is to prove the extent of the Pueblo Viejo geology or, whether our resources are a mirror to that of our Barrick/Goldcorp neighbors," Audet added.
